New Institutions – Application & Orientation

Find out what you need to know about Starting a Private Training Institution in BC before applying for certification, and how to participate in an Orientation Session.

Important notice: Amendments to the Private Training Regulation and Fees and Student Tuition Protection Fund Regulation come into effect on January 1, 2025. The amendments require action by certified private training institutions to be compliant by the in-force date and have implications for institutions applying for a certificate for the first time. See the Regulatory Amendments 2025 page for more information.

It is a requirement under the Private Training Act (PTA) for first time applicants for a certificate to attend an orientation within 6 months of applying. The Orientation must be completed by the institution owner, or the person responsible for operating the institution.

Submit the following completed forms to PTI@gov.bc.ca to sign up for an Orientation Session:

PTIB staff will then contact you to schedule an Orientation session.

The purpose of the orientation session is to provide applicants with an overview of the regulatory framework, familiarize them with the Private Training Act Policy Manual, and confirm the requirement for a certificate and the application process.
